Thank you for your interest in becoming a foster home with Throw Me A Bone Canada Dog Rescue. Please read the foster information below and then answer the following questions to the best of your ability.
- As a foster parent, you would temporarily take an animal into your home and care for it and give it love.
- TMABC pays for needed medical attention (at our veterinarian). Your foster will come with a harness and leash, dog dishes, food, puppy playpens, pee pads...everything needed. We can also supply a crate if needed
- You agree to bring the animal to our vet for appointments as needed. All appointments must be pre-approved by TMABC barring an extreme emergency.
- We ask that you will do some basic positive reinforcement/force-free training to help make the pet more adoptable; this may include house training (but if you don’t want to work on housetraining, please let us know and we CAN find a dog that has those skills - but it could take longer).
- Most of the animals will be coming from grim situations. We ask that you be patient with them and try to help them transition to their new roles as “adoptable dog" in any way needed.
- You can tell us the size, type, age, etc. and we will try to match you to your preference.
- Because we are a small, hands-on rescue, we need to tap into many of our limited resources whenever a foster situation doesn’t work. Inevitably sometimes a foster placement doesn’t work - so we all work as a team to optimize everyone’s experience; you are never stuck long term with a dog that isn’t the right fit. Please allow us up to 2 weeks to find a new replacement.
- agree to provide shelter and care for foster dog and assume all responsibility for the dog's wellbeing.
- agree to have the dog live indoors and not left outside unsupervised, even in a fenced yard, for extended periods.
- in event of no fenced yard you agree to take dog outside on a regular basis for exercise and elimination needs.
- agree to comply with all provincial and local laws relative to the keeping and care of the animal.
- agree to assume all responsibility for damage caused by the animal while in your control.
- you understand that TMABC will take every precaution necessary to ensure that the animal is in reasonably good health. TMABC cannot be held responsible for unforeseen problems that arise. The foster parent is responsible for keeping animals separated from resident pets (in cases of contagious and/or easily transmitted illnesses) and is responsible for any medical needs of resident animals as a result of such. TMABC will pick up ill animals immediately from foster home.
- foster parent is responsible for assuring their resident pets are up to date on their vaccines.
- agree to indemnify and hold harmless TMABC and its Board of Directors from any and all liability arising out of, or in consequence of, or injury sustained as a result of, any activity connected with volunteering for TMABC as a foster home.
- understand and agree that TMABC has the right to reclaim the animal if in their judgment the animal is not being cared for properly, or if in TMABC's sole discretion, it is determined that the foster parent has not complied with the terms of this agreement,
- agree that at no time will the foster parent leave the animal in the care of anyone else without pre-approval to do so
- agree to make TMABC aware if the animal is being taken to another location for an extended period.
- agree not to rehome this animal as you understand this animal is not your property
